What is an E.P.C. for - Energy performance Cetificate - and why do I need one?

An E.P.C. is an energy assesmnet of the current energy efficiency and expected energy efficiency of a domestic property.

Basically, an E.P.C. estimates the current energy useage cost of your property with the current installed energy efficiency schemes (if any). It then provides details (if needed) of ways to improve the property's energy efficiency costs, recommends the best new energy efficiencty schemes with costs to install in your property and an extimate of the expected overall savings.

An E.P.C. will also provide details of the current energy grade of your property and the expected new and improved grade.

An E.P.C. Assessment certificate is issued after the assessment. It is valid for 10 years.

There are two main reasons for needing an E.P.C;

One is that an E.P.C.'s are a legal requirment for the selling and renting of domestic propertries.

The other is that an E.P.C. will provide recommendations for the best energy efficiency schemes for your property.

It prevents extra wasted expense caused by the installation of inefficient and unsuitable schemes.

How do I book and pay for an EPC assessment?

Payment Is collected at the assessment. You will also be issued with receipt

How long does an E.P.C. assessment take?

Depending on the size of the property an E.P.C. assesment would take about an hour.
After the assessment has been completed there is about 2 hours work involved for creating and registering the EPC.

How long does an E.P.C. valid for?

An EPC (Energy Performance Certificate) is valid for 10 years from the date of it's issue

How long do I have to wait for the EPC results certificate?

Generally speaking, an E.P.C. certificate is normally issued by the end of the next working day.

Do I need to make any special preperation for an assessment?

Once you have booked your E.P.C. Ecobunny will email you a brief questionaire asking for any additional information that will help EPC assessor prepare for and carry out the assessment.

Questions include: do you have off street parking? If not is it easy to park nearby? Are there any special requirements to access the property?

Do I have to be at the assessment?

No, but for legal purposes someone has to be present.

What is your cancellation and reschedule policy?

Cancellation up to 72 hrs in advance are free. If the cancellation is made less than 72hrs before your appointment a cancellation fee of £20 will be charged.

Refunds are made to the card that you used for payment

Reschedule You an appointment less than 72 hrs in advance without charge. However, this can only be done once.

Do I have to install the recommended energy saving schemes?

The short answer is no.

The EPC recommendations are specific to your property and are only a suggestion of ways to imrpove your energy efficiency and energy costs.

If you decide to install any of the recommendations, you can choose which ones to install and when. They can be installed individually, in stages or as a whole.

The EPC's recommendations are valid for 10 years however, it may be worth checking to see if any of the recommendations have been updated after a few years from the date of the issue of the EPC.
