What is a Retrofit Retrofit Assessment

  • A Retrofit Assessment is an energy efficiency assessment that is more detailed than an EPC.
  • A Retrofit Assessment is used to design, plan and to install your selected scheme(s) without hinderance.
  • A retrofit assessment is required to support applications for government energy grants (solar panels, insulation etc)
  • A Retrofit Assessment comprises of five main parts;
    • A building condition report
    • Check for planning constraints i.e. a listed building
    • The trustmark Guarantee - an installation work gaurantee
    • An energy usage report

    • An Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) that contains details of;
    • Current and expected reduced energy usage ratings
    • Recommendations of cost effective energy savings schemes that can be installed
    • Estimated costs and financial return for the new schemes to be introduced
    • Current and projected carbon footprint reductions

How is a Retrofit Assessment Conducted?

As an credited Energy, I will perform the following assessment tasks;

  • Take photo's of the outside of the property, and of the energy fittings that are used
  • Take measurments of your property, and extension(s) if any
  • Take measurments of the windows and note their type (double glazing etc)
  • Take notes of the type(s) of wall construction
  • Take notes of the types of flooring, roof construction and attic room(s) if any
  • Ask questions for making an assessment of your current energy usage
  • Check for loft insulation and make a quick check of the roof
  • Take notes and photographs of boilers (if any) used for your heating and hot water systems
  • Take photographs of any insulation certificates/guarantees that you may have
  • In some instances other photographs will need to be taken that will help the installation process ie. driveway and or local parking for delivery vehicles.

After completing the report the assessor will return to the office, create your Retrofit Assessment, Energy Performance certificate and deliver it to you by your selected option. The assessor will be happy to discus the results of the EPC with you.

What is PAS 2030, PAS 2035 and the TrustMark?

Prior to 2019 Energy Performance Certificates and Retrofit Assessments were graded by the assessor. This meant that if two assessors were to issue an EPC certificate for the same property that it was very likely that the assessments would be different.

After an extensive government consultation PAS 2030 and 2035 were introduced during 2019. PAS 2030 for EPC assessments and PAS2035 for retrofit assessments. They provide the standards that have to be met when carrying out an EPC or Retrofit assessment. It also became a legal requirement for all energy assessors to receive training and to be registered as an accredited assessor.

In short, TrustMark provides a guarantee that all workmanship, EPC and Retrofit Assessments comply with PAS 2030 and/or PAS 2035.

The Trustmark Guarantee provides an assurance to customers that all workmanship is gauranteed and meets the legally required standards as specified in PAS2030 and/or PAS2035

PAS 2030 applies to EPC assessments.

PAS 2035 applies to any insatallation of the Retrofit Assessment's recommended energy efficiency schemes
